Rules

You have to predict the results of Knock-Out Phase matches. Initially this will be the Round-of-16 and once the Quarter, Semi, Final and 3/4 Play-off matches are known you must predict those also.

In addition, to add interest, you also have to predict the following:

1. IF the match goes to Penalties who will win? Note that you DO NOT have to have predicted a draw - this is IF the match goes to penalties. 3 points for each game you get right.
   

Points for matches are different from Round 1 as follows

Here is the scoring format (Note increase from Round 1)

•If you get the result of the game right you get 5 points

•If you get the goal difference right you get 2 more points

•If you have the exact score you get another 3 points.

•The maximum you can get therefore is 10 points

NOTE: THE SCORES ARE FOR 90 MINUTES NOT EXTRA TIME

However, if the score you predict for either team is 2 or more goals away from the actual you will be deducted 0.5 point for EVERY goal - this is the same as Round 1.

See examples below - don't be put off by the seeming complexity! All you have to do is predict the results.

Final Ranking is based on the points scored. In the event of two people having the same points the person with more 10-pointers wins. If both players have the same number of 10-pointers, 7-pointers will separate them.

Example A

The result is: Germany 1 Algeria 0

·        For right result - 5 points

·        For right goal difference - 2 point

·        Total 7 points

 

Example B

 

You predict: Germany 3 Algeria 0

The result is: Germany 1 Algeria 0

Points

·        For right result: 5 points

·        For goal difference 0 points

·        Predicted score is 2 away from actual: lose 0.5 (i.e. you are not penalized for being wrong by 1 goal but more than that you are)

·        Total 4.5 points

(The deduction is 0.5 of a point for every goal 2 or MORE away from the actual for EITHER team)

 

Example C

You predict: Germany 4 Algeria 2

The result is: Germany 1 Algeria 0

Points

·        For right result: 5 points

·        For goal difference 0 points

·        Predicted score for Germany is 3 away from actual: lose 2 x 0.50 = 1 point

·        Predicted score for Algeria is 2 away from actual: lose 1 x 0.5 point = 0.5 point

·        Total 3.5 points

You predict: Germany 2 Algeria 1

The result is: Germany 2 Algeria 1

·        For right result - 5 points

·        For right difference: 2 point

·        Both scores right: 3 point

·        Total 10 points

 

Note that it is possible to get a negative total!
